Wednesday was a significant day for WSU and every other college athletic program around the country with National Signing Day 2014. The football team garnered most of the attention, but they weren't the only ones to officially welcome new players. Women's soccer also received a handful of signatures while baseball players, golfers and other athletes also participated in signing day festivities.
We'll start with football. WSU received 17 signatures on Wednesday to go along with six early enrollees and one transfer already in school. Mike Leach said he was happy the Cougars didn't have to settle for recruits. He said he would rather not give out a scholarship than offer someone the staff didn't fully believe in, just to fill a spot. The women's soccer team hired Steve Nugent as the new head coach last week, just in time for the Cougars to welcome five new athletes.

Today is signing day for women’s soccer programs across the country. Washington State, fresh off its fifth NCAA postseason appearance in six years, is eager to add the 2014 recruiting class. The baseball and golf programs announced their signing classes back in November, but several of those athletes still participated in signing day ceremonies.
