Cougar football continues spring practice

Ernie Kent and WSU basketball has been in the news lately, but we can't forget about Mike Leach and WSU football who returned to the practice field yesterday.

For the first time in recent memory, WSU football took a back seat to WSU basketball in April.

Washington State took the field yesterday for their first day in shoulder pads this spring. The team practiced for two hours on Martin Stadium and were joined by former Cougar great Jason Gesser, who appeared to be wowed by the investment WSU has put into the program.

"It’s awesome," Gesser said of WSU’s contribution to college football’s facilities revolution. "It’s a different feel with all the construction going up, obviously the new press box and the new football facility there. It’s a different feel from the inside (of Martin Stadium), you know? But it’s a cool feeling at the same time."

On the field, it was the Halliday and Bruggman show. Connor Halliday, according to Jacob Thorpe, impressed with three consecutive endzone throws hitting the receiver in the corner of the endzone in tight coverage. Tyler Bruggman came in later and hit an 80 yard touchdown pass to Vince Mayle.

Football takes the back seat to basketball again today as Coach Kent has his introductory press conference at 2 in Beasley Coliseum and a student event at 3 in Bohler. Football returns to the practice field Thursday at 3.
