MLB Draft 2014: Tanner Chleborad selected by Baltimore Orioles

Washington State pitcher Tanner Chleborad was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 16th round of the MLB 2014 First-Year Player Draft today, No. 481 overall.

After a rough sophomore season, the 6-foot-5, 190-pound righty had his best year as a Cougar in 2014, posting a 3.84 ERA with 54 strikeouts and 21 walks in 89 innings. He started 15 games, most on the team. He has developed well at WSU, increasing his strikeouts and cutting down on his walks from his previous years.

While not a fireballer, Chleborad typically sits around 90 MPH and can touch the low 90s with his fastball, and it's believed that there's room to add some more speed to it as he continues to fill out what is still a pretty lanky frame. His repertoire also features a nice 12-6 curveball.

This is the second time Chleborad has been drafted after being selected in the 24th round by the Seattle Mariners in 2011. As for the likelihood Chleborad returns to WSU, it is believed he is ready to begin his pro career.
