Scholarship math and a look at the depth chart heading into fall camp

The fall camp roster is out and there are a few new names, a lot of added weight and a new depth chart.

Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE

With the start of fall camp just a few days away, we have a good idea of who will be on the Cougar's roster when practice begins. WSU updated its roster last week, importing the 2014 signing class and a few walk-ons while also updating every player's weight following a long offseason of conditioning. The team also released a new depth chart.

Let's start with an updated look at the eligibility and scholarship chart. This is our best guess on scholarship totals, but shouldn't be taken as fact since that information isn't widely available.

Departures:

Four scholarship players departed since the last roster update including Tyler Bruggman, Jalen Canty, Emmitt Su'a-Kalio and Markell Sanders. There could be two more departures depending on if Barry Ware and Deion Singleton get into school. As Cougfan recently reported, both players are listed on the roster but have yet to arrive in Pullman or be added to the student directory. There will likely be a number of walk-ons added to the roster once roster allowances expand when the academic year begins.

Notes:

Don't be overly concerned with positions on a few of these players. The walk-on safeties are all listed as defensive backs on the roster and could play either safety or corner. Sebastian LaRue moved to corner during spring football yet remains a wide receiver on the roster. Nick Begg is officially listed as a tight end even though he will likely play offensive line. There is some fluidity to the roster.

Several new walk-ons were added, including Skyler Cracraft, River Cracraft's younger older brother. That's right, the Cougars now have a pair of Cracrafts. Like the Simone brothers a few years ago, one Cracraft is a wide receiver while the other is a defensive back.

Weight gains:

The updated roster comes with updated weights so we can see how much the players gained and lost during offseason conditioning. It's also a chance to get accurate weights on the incoming freshman. Here is your sortable table.

Depth chart:

WSU released a preseason depth chart on Wednesday. A lot can change between now and the season opener, but it gives us an idea of who had a good offseason and who didn't (looking at you Gabe Marks). Marks being the No. 3 Z receiver could be a result of some off the field things during the offseason, or Kristoff Williams and Isiah Myers simply outperformed him during the offseason. Theron West and Jamal Morrow as the top two running backs also stands out. Marcus Mason and Teondray Caldwell will have ground to make up. The defense is largely as expected. Here is a complete look thanks to Jacob Thorpe of the Spokesman Review:
