Wanted: Statistics and information researchers

CougCenter.com is looking for one or more individuals to join us as statistics and information researchers. The purpose of the job is simple: Help our authors gather preexisting data for use in constructing stories and graphics.

Researching is a time-consuming process that often makes it challenging for CougCenter authors to tackle interesting topics or projects. With your occasional assistance, CougCenter will be able to create more engaging content.

The ideal candidate already will be proficient in pulling data from the internet and putting it into useful formats for analysis, such as Microsoft Excel. (Bonus points if you have the ability to statistically analyze data in a rigorous manner through either Excel or another programming language such as R. But this is not a requirement.)

And, of course, you have to love the Cougs.

Writing is not currently part of the scope of this position; in fact, the perfect person for this job could very well be someone who really doesn't enjoy writing at all, but would love an opportunity to contribute to the site that they enjoy. (Although, if you do want to write in addition to gathering and processing data, that's certainly an option we can discuss.)

Like the majority of positions at CougCenter, this will have to be a labor of love for you, as there is no compensation involved. But the position is not without its benefits -- something that should be clear by the considerable hours that the dozen or so authors choose to invest in the site. We all get something out of our involvement, and we believe that you will, too.

You'll not be expected to spend all day everyday working on CougCenter tasks. After all, this isn't a job. You'll simply be doing the best you can with the time you have, as we all do.
