Friday was the first day of August and WSU will play its first football game within the calendar month. The WSU football team spent at least part of Friday together before they pack their bags and head to Lewiston for the start of the 2014 fall camp. Here are some photos of the pre-camp buzz around the WSU athletic facilities on Friday.
The team had their first meal of camp inside the new Gray Letter Club dining hall on the fourth floor of the Football Operations building.
Here's a look at the food preparation that was taking place in the fully operational kitchen.
Players also had to have their 2014 pictures taken for media usage by athletic communications.
Not having to meet with coaches and prepare a practice meant that Mike Leach was able to get in one final Ask Me Anything session in on Reddit to promote his new Geronimo book and answer questions from fans. Questions ranged from the topic of marijuana legalization in Washington to the new Taco Bell in Pullman. Leach was also asked about the recent push by some Texas Tech fans to have the university compensate him for the 2009 season for which he has apparently not yet been paid for.
The start of fall camp doesn't quite generate the excitement that hovers around the kickoff of the opening game. However, it keeps football in the daily conversation with reports and clips of coaches and players giving interviews and talking about the direction of the team. Fall camps are most interesting for teams that do not have as much set in stone for the coming season. In the case of WSU's football team, there is competition worth watching at many positions on the depth chart. Coug fans that want to know who to expect on the field when WSU kickoffs against Rutgers on the 28th of the month should tune in on what is going on during the next few weeks. We will keep you up to speed with what you need to know here on CougCenter.
