Washington State continues to recruit the heck out of the defensive backfield in their 2016 class, this time winning a recruiting battle over Washington and Oregon State. Cougfan was the first to report tonight that California athlete Marcus Strong gave his verbal to the Cougs.
Scout gives the 5'11", 170 pound corner back two-stars while Rivals and 24/7 think a little more of the Rialto, California product with a three-star rating. Strong also sported offers from WSU's Pac-12 foes Washington and Oregon State to go along with an offer from San Jose State.
Strong has been playing corner and wide receiver at Wilmer Amina Carter High School but I'd expect to see him play defense once he gets to Washington State. The more depth WSU can build in the secondary after dealing with those very issues for years, the better.
His Hudl video (embedded below) features mostly offensive and return highlights but you can see his good speed and agility regardless. Right around the 2:10 mark, you can also see he hits like a ton of bricks. I can't get a great feel for how he plays defense but he seems to high point the ball nicely in the couple of defensive highlights we see.
Overall, a very nice pick-up for Alex Grinch's defense and the fourth cornerback in the 2016 recruiting class.
