Deontay Burnett didn't flip his commitment after all

We take a one-week break from trivia because it's signing day week.

Every year, the last two weeks before National Signing Day are always a whirlwind where commitments come and go, team scramble and everyone just waits for the dust to settle and faxes to start rolling in. It was hold onto your butts season in a nutshell on Sunday with Deontay Burnett reportedly flipping his commitment from WSU to Michigan only to come to find out Burnett didn't actually flip his commitment.

Let's recap.

Burnett -- a 3-star WSU commitment -- took an official visit to Michigan over the weekend. Just before 2 p.m. PT on Sunday, word started to roll in that Burnett had flipped his commitment from WSU to the Wolverines.

Rivals.com's Adam Gorney tweeted as much.

Scout.com's Greg Biggins followed with similar word.

When two national reporters both tweet the same thing, it is usually correct ... except this time it wasn't.

It turns out Burnett told his high school coach he was going to commit to Michigan -- who presumably told reporters -- only Burnett didn't actually commit to Michigan. Let's let him explain, via the Detroit News:

"I told my coach I was going to commit but never actually did it, so there was some miscommunication there," Burnett told Greg Biggins of Scout.com. "When I told him I was going to commit, I know he went and told some people and word leaked out."

So Burnett hasn't committed to Michigan and is technically still a WSU commit. It might be better to say WSU is among the contenders, because Burnett said he still has a decision to make:

"Right now, I'm pretty confused about everything and I'm still considering Washington State and Arizona State too. I don't know when I'll make a final decision; it could be on Signing Day or sooner if I know for sure."

To sum it all up: Burnett visited Michigan. Burnett told his high school coach he was going to commit to Michigan. Burnett did not commit to Michigan. Burnett is still considering Michigan along with WSU and ASU.
