WSU baseball knocks off Oklahoma

The Cougars climbed back above .500.

James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier this month, the Oklahoma Sooners hired away former WSU wide receiver coach Dennis Simmons. By doing so, the Sooners poached a good coach while also doing some damage to WSU's recruiting class as Simmons' commits jumped ship. The WSU baseball team was obviously motivated to get some revenge and did so on Thursday with a 4-3 win against the Sooners.

Take that.

WSU jumped out early with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Cougars never trailed the rest of the way as Sean Hartnett pitched a fine game and lasted into the eighth inning. He allowed just two runs and the Cougars led 4-2 going into the ninth inning. Things got a little dicey, but closer Ian Hamilton managed to work his way out of it to get the Cougars the win.

With the win, WSU improves to 3-2 on the season and back above .500 after a little bit of a rough start to the year. The Cougars will face Oklahoma State on Friday as the Pac-12/Big 12 Challenge continues. We're totally coming for revenge for the 65-17 football loss in 2010, Cowboys.
