WSU women's basketball team knocks off Washington

Make it three in a row for WSU.

WSU Athletic Communications

For nearly two decades, the Washington women's basketball team dominated the matchup with WSU. The Cougars snapped the streak last year and kept it rolling on Friday with a 83-72 win against the Huskies. That is WSU's third straight win against Washington.

Lia Galdeira was once again at the center of it all for WSU. She finished with 23 points, eight rebounds and eight assists to pace the Cougar attack. WSU got off to a bit of a sluggish start and actually trailed by six points at halftime. Then Galdeira and the Cougars got rolling during the final 20 minutes. WSU made 20 of 36 shots in the second half. That helped the Cougars tack on a whopping 50 points after halftime, enough to erase the deficit and give the Cougars their first double-digit win against Washington since 1981.

The Cougars still have a long way to go if they are going to match Washington's 36-game winning streak in the rivalry. WSU will get a chance to make it four straight on Sunday when it hosts the Huskies in Pullman.
