Watching Klay Thompson as a freshman at WSU, even then, you got the idea he could be something special. In the same season he earned his first All-Star team selection, Klay received another incredible honor Thursday. The former Coug was named to the All-NBA Third team with teammate and league MVP Stephen Curry earning First Team honors.
Thompson finished the season averaging a career high 21.2 points, including 52 points in one game after a 37 point third quarter against Sacramento. If you haven't seen it, the 37 second super cut of each and every point is well worth your time. Klay continued to shoot well from beyond the arc, finishing fourth in the league at 43.8 percent from downtown. Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, Kyrie Irving and Tim Duncan (not bad for a pensioner) joined Thompson on the third team.
Being able to root for Klay Thompson on a nightly basis while he was in college is among my favorite things about my Cougar fandom, if not my absolute favorite. Watching him scream to heights most of us couldn't imagine for him has been quite a treat over the last four years. As I write this, he's seven wins with his league-best Golden State Warriors team away from becoming just the third Coug to ever hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy. Congrats to Klay on his well deserved success in the League.
We do need to talk about that goatee though, man.
