The 2012 Apple Cup was missing a key part to not only the defense but the team as a whole. Linebacker Travis Long, now with the Philadelphia Eagles, tore his ACL right before his senior night, a game against the University of Washington. A late game comeback followed by an overtime victory to finish the season at home is what Travis Long missed.
Many fans hurt for the beloved linebacker as we watched him walk across the field to greet his family wearing not his shoulder pads and helmet but slowly making his way across on crutches dressed up in his lettermans jacket.
Bad news came for the third time since that 2012 Apple Cup for Long when he tore his ACL in practice on Monday. In last season's final preseason game Long tore his left ACL sidelining him for the season. Almost a year later he is back in the same position.
We wish for a fast recovery for the former Coug!
