2017 safety Ty Thomas of Lubbock, TX. has commited to WSU after receiving an offer earlier this week. The news of a new recruit from Mike Leach's old stomping grounds was first reported by Cougfan.com's Braulio Perez.
The 5-foot-11, 190 pounder is the nephew of former Texas Tech All-American and NFL Pro Bowl linebacker Zach Thomas and the son of Texas Tech 3rd team All-American safety Bart Thomas, so he definitely comes from a good gene pool.
As a sophomore, Thomas was the leading tackler in the Texas 5A state playoffs for Cooper High School. He has received recruiting interest from Georgia Tech, Kansas State, TCU and Rice. It's a long time until Thomas signs on the dotted line, so hopefully the Cougs can hold onto him if other schools come calling. Clay McGuire is WSU's Texas recruiter and will be running point on keeping Thomas in the fold.
Here are some highlights:
Not a lot of highlights of Thomas in coverage on this video, but he really shows some big-time hitting skills. It would be great the Cougs can hold onto to this kid with his great toughness and bloodlines.
