Last season, the WSU women's basketball team was just a couple wins away from making their 2nd ever NCAA Tournament appearance. This season, they appear to be in a similar situation.
The Cougs topped 25th ranked USC 73-61 on Friday and came with in inches of matching 19th ranked UCLA on Sunday, as Borislava Hristova's buzzer beater spun around the rim before falling out and sealing the 75-73 Bruin win. The Cougs are 12-6 this season, including 3-4 in conference, good enough for a 7th place standing. This team has what it takes to possibly make a push later in the season, and people seem to be taking notice.
In his most recent NCAA Women's Basketball bracketology, ESPN's Charlie Creme holds the Cougs in high regard. He puts WSU as the first team in his "First 4 Out Category". Seven Pac-12 teams are in the projection, including a USC team that ranks a half game below WSU in the standings.
With 11 games to go before the start of the Pac-12 Tournament, it's going to be a fight to the finish for the Cougs, who have to make a name for themselves in a tough conference. They'll have another chance to do just that this weekend in Seattle as they take on the Huskies Saturday at 2 on the Pac-12 Network.
