Its been over a month since the Cougs lost a football game which is a pretty gal darn neato thing, pardon my French. In that space of time, we’ve seen them go from a team that may be missing out on the postseason to one in what is now the less difficult part of their schedule just two wins from eligibility.
WSU started making some more appearances in bowl projections last week and following their 27-21 win over the UCLA Bruins, the Cougs are making even more noise. Here’s our roundup of where outlets that cover college football see the Cougs landing this postseason.
As a reminder, here is the order the Pac-12 bowls pick in.
- Rose Bowl vs. Big Ten (Pasadena, CA)
- Alamo Bowl vs. Big 12 (San Antonio, TX)
- Holiday Bowl vs. Big Ten (San Diego, CA)
- Foster Farms Bowl vs. Big Ten (Santa Clara, CA)
- Sun Bowl vs. ACC (El Paso, TX)
- Las Vegas Bowl vs. MWC (Las Vegas, NV)
- Cactus Bowl vs. Big 12 (Phoenix, AZ)
Note: Should the Washington Huskies make it into the College Football Playoff, the Rose Bowl is not obligated to take the Pac-12 South champion if someone in the North, say the Cougs, are better record wise.
ESPN: Rose or Holiday Bowl
Brett McMurphy at ESPN still likes the Cougs to head down to Pasadena after the new year for a rematch with the Michigan Wolverines and Jim Harbaugh’s tucked in sweatshirt. Mark Schlabach sticks with his same projection from a week ago, a trip to San Diego and the Holiday Bowl to face the Penn State Nittany Lions.
SB Nation: Alamo Bowl
The mothership for this very website believes the Cougs will be headed to central Texas for a match-up against ... the Texas Longhorns. Something tells me that crowd at the Alamodome will be leaning in one very distinct direction should this game come to fruition. Still though, the Cougs have a good history in bowl games against the Longhorns so we got that goin’ for us, which is nice.
Sports Illustrated: Holiday Bowl
More projected time in SoCal, this time against the Indiana Hoosiers though. It wouldn’t be the first time the teams met though. They played each other three times in the early 60s with WSU coming away victorious twice.
Sporting News: Alamo Bowl
Hmm, lets see, who does Sporting News think the Cougs will take on in San Antonio.
/looks it up
/sees West Virginia Mountaineers
Good God, there isn’t enough liquor in the state of Texas for this game.
CBS: Foster Farms Bowl
The only projection that puts WSU in Silicon Valley for a post-Christmas rumble with the Indiana Hoosiers.
