Apple Cup 2016 odds: Washington opens as 6-point favorite

It’s not a big surprise, and seems about right.

NCAA Football: Washington State at Colorado Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Huskies will come into the Apple Cup as six-point favorites, according to the opening lines from Las Vegas. At 10-1, coming off a bounce back win over Arizona State, the Huskies find themselves in the thick of the College Football Playoff hunt, and all that stands between them and a Pac-12 Championship Game berth is the Apple Cup.

The six-point line shouldn’t be too much of a shock here, and seems about right on paper. Adjusting for home-field (3-points), Vegas thinks the Huskies are two scores better on a neutral field. They’re a top-six team whose only loss on the year is to a superb USC team, and Washington State is coming off a loss to Colorado.

There’s no big speech about throwing out all the odds and records for Apple Cup here. Washington State is going to have to have to put together its best game of the season to knock off an explosive Washington team on Friday. But they’ll do so as underdogs, and knowing the mindset of this team, they’ll use that as motivation.

We’ll keep an eye on if the line shifts before the game, and which way it’s trending.
