When it comes to searching for a quarterback in the 2017 recruiting class, Mike Leach and the Washington State staff are leaving no stone unturned, extending an offer this week to a highly-sought quarterback in SEC country.

Taylor Powell, a pro-style quarterback prospect out of Fayetteville, Ark., received a verbal offer from the Cougars this week, adding to an offer sheet that also includes Illinois, Maryland, Memphis, Wake Forest and Arkansas State. Several Power Five programs, including Arizona State, North Carolina, TCU and Arkansas, among others, are also after the 6-foot-2, 200-pounder.

Powell, rated a three-star prospect by the 24/7 Sports Composite, is ranked the No. 31 overall quarterback and the No. 2 prospect in Arkansas in the 2017 class. Rivals.com ranks Powell three-stars and the No. 3 prospect in Arkansas. Dave Nichol and/or JaMarcus Shephard are likely to pick up Powell's recruitment given their connections to the region.

As a junior, Powell threw for 3,594 yards and 49 touchdowns while completing 71 percent of his pass attempts. As you can see below, Powell shows off above-average accuracy, a staple when it comes to quarterback recruiting under Leach, and while he doesn't have elite arm strength, the Fayetteville High product puts impressive touch on his throws down the field.

Powell is the third quarterback to pick up an offer from Washington State in recent weeks, joining Jacksonville, Fla. four-star Mac Jones and Newport Beach, Calif. three-star Chase Garbers. The Cougars are also heavily targeting four-star Tristan Gebbia and three-stars Tyler Lytle and Connor Neville, each of whom have already or plan to visit this spring.
