WSU football recruiting: OL Christian Haangana signs with Cougars

Offensive lineman out of California sent in his letter of intent Wednesday to Washington State.

Offensive lineman Christian Haangana is the newest member of the Washington State football family after faxing in his national letter of intent Wednesday. Haangana played high school football in the San Francisco area at Milpitas High School.

Haangana is ranked as a composite three-star prospect by 24/7 Sports and is one of at least five other offensive lineman expected to sign today. Holding scholarship offers from Oregon State and San Jose State, Haangana gave his verbal to the Cougars back in November. Lob an assist to American Samoa folk hero and Cougars defensive line coach Joe Salave'a for helping land Haangana.

At 6-foot-6, Haangana is listed at 347 pounds by Rivals and Scout, but 24/7 Sports and ESPN have him listed at 400 pounds. As his highlight tape below shows, he is able to pancake his high school opponents regularly. But how will he fare against stronger and quicker collegiate defensive ends and tackles? There's a lot to like about Haangana, and once he's able to turn some fat into muscle, he should be a brick wall up front for the Cougs.

Brian Anderson's quick scouting report

Gotta love a lineman with a nickname like ‘The Chef'. Leach looks to recruit lineman with a little bit of "nasty" and you see a lot of that in Haangana. He took nearly every run block highlight to the ground - and kept them there -- and mopped up the secondary whenever the opportunity presented itself. His pass pro footwork was really decent too, for his size, but could improve his quickness after the initial drop and kick. With OL prospects you try to estimate either how strong they'll be with an extra 40 lbs or how fast they'd be dropping 40 lbs. Haangana is probably athletic enough to carry a +360 frame and be fast enough to handle PAC-12 competition. He was straight nightmare fuel for high school competition.
