Best of Mike Leach

There is no character in college football quite like Mike Leach, here are some of his best sound bites from over the years.

James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

At work this week a co-worker of mine could not believe I didn't know who Iowa State's basketball coach was. After showing me the Cyclones lead man, she informed me that she did not know who Mike Leach was. I was in utter disbelief. I proceeded to show her clips of Washington State's wacky sword wielding head honcho.

Many of these clips come from his days at Texas Tech. But each year Leach is on the Cougars staff we seem to get more and more. Take a look at the handful of memorable Leach moments below.

We will start with my personal favorite.

Fat little girlfriends

This might be the best way in the history of the world to describe a failure to eliminate distractions.

Let the mad man think

It turns out kicking the extra point was the right decision...

Coach also is a ladies man

Biggest take away: Always pick places that don't have a lot of salad.

March Madness Mike

The NCAA tournament is insane (see Michigan State vs Middle Tennessee) and Leach thinks the same type of format is more than possible in college football. ESPN recently imagined that Leach's wish came true and provided the Cougars with a 7 seed with a first round match-up against 10 seed Mississippi State. Do you think the Cougs would advance?

Leach forecasts the future of personal communication

I love his demonstration and the back-and-forth hypothetical conversation. If there is one video that shows off Leach and his out of the box thinking it is this one.

Leach swings his sword post game

In true Leach fashion, coach drops an articulate sound bite for the ages.

Leach is as unpredictable as the weather in Pullman...well in this case Lubbock.

As great as this experiment was, coach should stick to calling plays.

Honorable mentions

I cannot wait for another season of great quotes, charismatic post game interviews and podium addresses. Go Cougs!
