The Washington State Cougar 2016 baseball season and start to the Marty Lees' era as the Cougar head coach has not started off the way they had planned.
After dropping all 3 of their games against No. 14 UCLA, the Cougars (7-12) were scheduled to host Gonzaga (11-7) on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Bailey-Brayton Field in Pullman, but the game has now been postponed because of rain.
Ryley Widell was to be the likely starting pitcher for the Cougars; he has posted a 1-0 record while having a 11.74 ERA while striking out 10 in his 7.2 innings pitched. Gage Burland was to be the opposing pitcher; he has a 7.88 ERA with 11 strikeouts in his 8 innings pitched.
Washington State has struggled in closing out games this year and has found themselves losing their lead late in the game including losing two games in extra innings this season.
After two close games with the Bulldogs last season we had hoped to see the Cougars finish out a game tough and get a mid-week boost before heading to California to take on Stanford for a 3-game set starting Thursday.
