Price, Gesser headline 2016 WSU Hall of Fame inductees

7 new inductees will join the 206 current members this fall.

Mike Price led the Cougars to five bowl games, two Rose Bowls, and three 10-win seasons during his 14 year career as head football coach at Washington State. And this fall, the University is going to induct the two time Pac-10 coach of the year into their athletic Hall of Fame.

Price headlines a group of seven members that will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during half time of the Washington State vs. Idaho football game on September 17th. He'll be joined by a man who played quarterback for him during four of his most successful years at the helm.

Jason Gesser set 15 WSU records by the time he graduated in 2002. He led the Cougs to one Rose Bowl and back to back 10-win seasons in 2001 and 2002 and was voted first team All-American by College Football News in 2002. He was also the face of the best Heisman trophy campaign in the history of Heisman trophy campaigns.

Joining these two football all stars will be five more Cougar all stars from all backgrounds. These names include: record breaking baseball star (1970-74) Marv Chamberlain, three time All-American swimmer (1996-2000) Erin Eldridge, 10 year MLB veteran and former college basketball player (1992-96) Mark Hendrickson, three time All-American track star (1988-93) Jennifer Robertson, and longtime WSU administrator (1979-2007), and name sake of Saneholtz volleyball court Marcia Saneholtz.

For full write ups on all the inductees and more information on Hall of Fame events, check out the full WSU release.

Baseball

In an odd move, just minutes before first pitch in a sold out Yakima County Stadium, the scheduled baseball game between UW and WSU was abruptly cancelled. The official release said both sides agreed that the playing field was deemed unplayable... But I think we all knew the real reason UW was afraid to play the Cougs Tuesday... Besides dropping a series to them at home 2 weeks ago...

The "UW still has a shot at a regular season title and felt that this previously agreed upon game could have interfered with that chance in some way" theory sounds good to me.
