Former Coug Adam Conley makes emotional start in return

The former Washington State baseball player makes his return from the DL

Miami Marlins pitcher and former Washington State Cougar Adam Conley made his first appearance since being placed on the disabled list on August 15 in a very emotional start against the New York Mets on Monday. Conley was activated Monday after a short stint away with tendinitis in a finger on his left hand.

In Conley's return he pitched 3 scoreless innings allowing 2 hits and striking out 2 while walking one in his spot start that ended with a no decision. The Marlins scored all 7 of their runs in those three innings as Miami closed out an emotional game winning 7-3.

Early Sunday Morning the Marlins organization announced that 24 year old pitcher Jose Fernandez was killed in a tragic boating accident. Their game later that day was canceled. Fernandez was slated to make his final start of the regular season on Monday.

The former Cougar tweeted out a photo of him and Fernandez from their time on the Greensboro Grasshoppers team back in 2012.
