The Cougar women have a huge rivalry matchup on tap this weekend, but before they hit the floor on Sunday, they got some bad news on Tuesday.
One of the team's driving forces so far this season, freshman guard Chanelle Molina will miss the rest of the season with a ligament injury. The incident happened last Friday during a game at Arizona State when Molina landed awkwardly on her leg. And, on Tuesday, the tests came back confirming that Molina has torn her ACL.
Molina has had a tremendous first season at WSU. Though 17 games, the freshman has averaged 12.8 points per game, good for 16th in the conference, while shooting .431 from behind the arc, good for 6th in the Pac-12. Molina won the conference freshman of the week award twice so far this season
Cameron Fernandez also went down in Friday's ASU game. She was stretchered out with a severe concussion after hitting her head on the floor. After losing Borislava Hristova and Louise Brown last month, the active roster for the Cougs is down to just 9 players. Both Hristova and Brown are listed as "out indefinitely".
You can watch June Daugherty talk about the injuries and the week ahead in her press conference here.
The Cougs (at least the players who aren't injured) will host 8th ranked Washington Sunday at 1 PM on the Pac-12 Networks.
