WSU football recruiting: Seattle RB Caleb Perry becomes sixth in-state verbal

The 5-foot-9, 170-pound all-purpose back committed to WSU over Missouri, Cincinnati and others.

Caleb Perry, an all-purpose running back from Seattle, Wash., announced on Twitter Thursday morning that he has committed to Washington State, becoming the sixth in-state prospect in the current recruiting class to verbally pledge to the Cougs.

The 5-foot-9, 170-pound speedster had a slow start to his recruitment, as one would expect coming from WIAA 1A King’s High School. But after a massive senior campaign, his recruitment heated up, eventually picking up offers from Missouri and Cincinnati, as well as Montana State and Portland State.

Perry, who took home co-offensive MVP honors in the Cascade Conference as a senior, racked up 1,220 yards and 19 touchdowns on the ground for King’s this season. He also won the WIAA 1A 100-meter championship as a junior, so the speed is certainly there.

Perry, self-reporting a 4.38 40-yard dash time, is rated two-stars and the No. 30 overall all-purpose back in the 2017 recruiting class, according to the 247 Sports Composite. Scout.com ranks Perry a three-star prospect. He becomes Eric Mele’s sixth in-state verbal for the 2017 recruiting class. Jim Mastro also helped in Perry’s recruitment.

In total, Washington State now holds 22 verbal commitments in the current cycle with just under a month left until Signing Day. The current dead period ends next Friday.
