Bowl projections: We’re still in Texas! Not San Antonio ... but Texas!

Things certainly aren’t looking as good after the trip to Berkeley ... but still pretty good!

NCAA Football: Rice at Texas El Paso Ivan Pierre Aguirre-USA TODAY Sports

Boy ... hell of a game to pick for my first WSU game-related road trip in a decade, huh?

The good news is, much like heavily bearded men on bicycles, Berkeley had plenty of beer to drown my sorrows in. Despite an absolute walloping at the hands of the Cal Golden Bears, the Washington State Cougars are still ranked 15th in the AP Poll, a good spot for a team seven games into the season, certainly still exceeding many expectations from before the season.

So, what did the loss do to the Cougs’ bowl projections? Well, they got worse, as one would expect. How much worse? They’re still in Texas! In some of them!

As a reminder, the Pac-12’s bowl tie-ins for this coming season:

  1. Alamo Bowl: Dec. 28th, 6:00 p.m. on ESPN vs. Big 12
  2. Holiday Bowl: Dec. 28th, 6:00 p.m. on FS1 vs. Big Ten
  3. Foster Farms Bowl: Dec. 27th, 5:30 p.m. on FOX vs. Big Ten
  4. Sun Bowl: Dec. 29th, 12:00 p.m. on CBS vs. ACC/Notre Dame
  5. Las Vegas Bowl: Dec. 16th, 12:30 p.m. on ABC vs. Mountain West
  6. Cactus Bowl: Dec. 26th, 6:00 p.m. on ESPN vs. Big 12

(Note: The Rose Bowl is a CFP Semifinal game this season so the Pac-12 champion is not automatically eligible for a spot in the game.)

SB Nation: Sun Bowl

See? Still Texas! The Washington Huskies’ loss to the Arizona State Sun Devils also isn’t helping the Cougs this week, as they were bumped out of the playoff picture for now. The mothership puts us in El Paso against the fightin’ Paul Johnsons and the ever confounding triple option.

CBS: Sun Bowl

Jerry Palm dropped the Huskies even further out of the playoff down to the Alamo Bowl so that, consequently, pushed the Cougs to El Paso here as well. A goodie against the Lousiville Cardinals ... until I just remembered Lamar Jackson. /shudders

ESPN: Foster Farms or Holiday Bowl

I have a really, really hard time believing the Holiday Bowl will be a landing spot for the Cougs again unless the committee doesn’t have a choice but, there’s always that chance. Playing the Michigan Wolverines in that game would cause one hell of a family rift for me as well. Foster Farms includes a Northwestern Wildcats projection, in which case we could just send the J-schools out to fight it out.

Sporting News: Foster Farms Bowl

A game against the Purdue Boilermakers? Okay! As long as it isn’t basketball.
