WSU bowl projections: California dreamin’ (mostly)

WSU’s bowl projections are largely unchanged after last weekend ... but there’s a new Pac-12 team in the New Years Six conversation.

NCAA Football: Foster Farms Bowl-Indiana vs Utah Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

Perhaps that 28-0 rainy drubbing of the Colorado Buffaloes had you dreaming of the sweet, warm California sunshine? I know I was! Hell, the World Series gets underway tomorrow at Chavez Ravine and it’s going to be 100 degrees. In October. Why’d I ever leave? Oh right, everything else about it.

Anywho, not too many changes in the Washington State Cougars’ bowl projections following this weekend and, actually, they would’ve had good reason to get worse after the Notre Dame Fighting Irish took the USC Trojans to the woodshed. The good news, for now, is that the Stanford Cardinal actually vaulted into the New Years Six conversation as Bryce Love continues to rack up yards on yards on yards.

So, lets take a look at what the finest bowl prognosticators think of the Cougs this week. First though, a reminder of where the Pac-12 is automatically tied in (and it seems a virtually certainty at this point every spot will be filled).

  1. Alamo Bowl: Dec. 28th, 6:00 p.m. on ESPN vs. Big 12
  2. Holiday Bowl: Dec. 28th, 6:00 p.m. on FS1 vs. Big Ten
  3. Foster Farms Bowl: Dec. 27th, 5:30 p.m. on FOX vs. Big Ten
  4. Sun Bowl: Dec. 29th, 12:00 p.m. on CBS vs. ACC/Notre Dame
  5. Las Vegas Bowl: Dec. 16th, 12:30 p.m. on ABC vs. Mountain West
  6. Cactus Bowl: Dec. 26th, 6:00 p.m. on ESPN vs. Big 12

(Note: The Rose Bowl is a CFP Semifinal game this season so the Pac-12 champion is not automatically eligible for a spot in the game.)

SB Nation: Foster Farms Bowl

Being on an over-the-air network is about the only advantage I can see from this one because it’s played in a terrible stadium just two days after Christmas and competes directly with a Big 12 v. SEC game. The draw of the projected opponent, the Northwestern Wildcats, doesn’t appeal much either.

ESPN: Foster Farms or Alamo Bowl

That’s a pretty, pretty substantial difference but if you think WSU can run the table and will miss out on the New Years Six, it could happen (and that COULD happen). The Indiana Hoosiers in the Foster Farms would probably be another painfully unappealing game for a national audience though playing the Oklahoma State Cowboys in San Antonio has very #Pac12Big12AfterDark potential.

CBS: Sun Bowl

Jerry Palm remains very consistent, picking the Cougs here for the last few weeks by my count. The appearance of the North Carolina State Wolfpack is a new one though (I think).

College Football News: Foster Farms Bowl

There are not enough farm or agriculture jokes in the world for Twitter the day of an Iowa Hawkeyes v. WSU matchup in this game.
