Syr Riley, the 6-3, 323 lb interior lineman from Pacific Palisades, California committed to the Cougars back in October and officially signed his letter of intent with the Cougars today.
Riley is listed as a three-star by 247Sports.com and is ranked as the 65th offensive guard in the country.
While some schools had been recruiting him for defense as well, Mike Leach and company have recruited him as an offensive guard. His measurable’s line up well in line with what the coaching staff has been going after.
He is the third known offensive lineman commit for the Cougars for the 2018 class.
After his junior season in 2016 he was named as the Western League’s offensive lineman of the year.
He picks the Cougars with eight other offers including California, Idaho, Navy and UNLV.
Scouting report
Riley is a good-sized OL, exactly the sort of lineman that we’ve seen come through the Palouse and have success under Maguire and Leach. At 6’3”, Riley has the frame to rework his body into powerful one. He already has a mean streak to him, and his tape shows him finishing a lot of blocks with his opponent on the ground. Has a tendency to block high in the run game and will need to drop his center of gravity against pass rushers. He would will benefit from a redshirt year for technique and fitness, but projects to be a guard that will fight for a starting spot down the road.
