WSU football recruiting: Wazzu lands verbal from linebacker Victor Terry III

Victor Terry III, an outside linebacker prospect from Los Angeles, Calif., picked up an offer from Washington State last week and wasted no time in verbally committing.

“I would like to thank all schools that have been showing their interest,” Terry tweeted Sunday evening,” but after a long time of thought and discussion with my family, coaches and teammates, I would like to humbly announce that I will be committing to Washington State University.”

The Augustus Hawkins High standout, who also held offers from Oregon State, Nevada, Fresno State, Boston College and others, is the first prospect to verbally commit to WSU in the 2018 recruiting class. Roy Manning and Ken Wilson primarily recruited Terry.

The 6-foot-1, 197-pounder is rated three-stars and ranked the No. 36 overall outside linebacker prospect in the country by the 24/7 Sports Composite. Scout.com gives Terry a four-star rating and ranks him the No. 277 overall prospect in the nation.

As a junior last season, Terry lined up at outside linebacker and defensive end, racking up 97 tackles and nine sacks. It’s probably too early to say where he’d lineup at Washington State, though he likely projects as a rush or nickel when it’s all said and done.

While there’s still 11 months to go until National Signing Day, it’s obviously a great start to the 2018 recruiting cycle for the Cougs. WSU didn’t receive their first verbal commitments until early April last cycle when Connor Neville and Dontae Powell committed.
