Cougars split series at Loyola Marymount

Washington State is now 3-4.

WSU Athletic Communications

The Washington State baseball team finished up their trip to California on Monday evening by losing at Loyola Marymount in the finale of a four-game series. The Cougars split the series, winning the first and third games, to bring their record to 3-4.

The Cougars opened the series on Friday with a 6-3 win but lost all control on Saturday when they allowed 18 runs off 20 hits in a 18-5 loss.

On Sunday, the Cougars found their third win of the season after scoring 3 runs in the ninth inning to break a tie and win 7-4. Ryan Ramsower dropped a bunt down in the ninth inning to bring across Derek Chapman and Andres Alvarez to take the late lead. They weren't done, as the next batter, Justin Herrer doubled to right and brought in Ramsower to help give the Cougars the victory.

They could not find that same magic on Monday when they struggled to get anything across late and dropped the series finale 7-3. After leaving men on in the first inning, the Cougars found all 3 of their runs in the third inning but were already climbing out of a 5-run hole. Loyola tightened up their defense and did not allow the Cougars to even come within striking distance for the rest of the game.

The Cougars will be in Pullman for their home opener this weekend when they start a 4-game series against Stephen F. Austin on Friday at 4:00 pm.
