After being "snowed out" on Thursday, the Washigton State Cougars baseball team took on the Utah Valley Wolverines Friday afternoon at Bailey-Brayton Field and came away with an 8-4 victory.
The win moves WSU to 7-4 on the season, the team's fourth straight win after starting off the year 3-4 against Sacramento State and LMU and the team will look to make it five in a row in the first game of a doubleheader agaisnt UVU this afternoon.
Redshirt junior Damon Jones worked around a two-run first inning and earned his first win of the young season by striking out four Wolvertines in five plus innings of work.
Offensively, the Cougars were led by J.J. Hancock and James Rudkin who had three RBI's each. Shane Matheny hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game at 2-2 and freshman Dillon Plew collected three hits on the afternoon.
The combination of Trenton Dupre, Colby Nealy, and Scotty Sunitsch only allowed one run in four innings of work out of the bullpen to secure teh victory for WSU.
The Cougars continue their series against Utah Valley this morning with the first pitch of game one scheduled to be thrown at 10 a.m. and game two is expected to begin at 3 p.m.
