There are smart cookies and then there’s Washington State senior forward Josh Hawkinson. We’ve highlighted what a decorated career he’s had despite playing at a pretty tepid time in WSU’s basketball history. But not only has he been excellent on the court, he has been pretty dang good off it, especially in the classroom.
The Pac -12 gave him the recognition he deserves this week, naming Hawkinson their Men’s Basketball Scholar Athlete of the Year. Not only did Hawkinson wrap up his undergraduate degree in three years (while juggling a full load on the basketball team, mind you) he pulled a 3.42 GPA while studying to earn his MBA this year.
On the court, thanks to his average of a double-double in each game, Hawkinson was named to the second team All Pac-12 this season as well. He’ll also finish his career at WSU as one of just 13 players in the conference’s history to record more than 1,000 rebounds.
Congrats to Josh for some well-deserved recognition!
