In their second Pac-12 series of the young season, the Washington State Cougars suffered a 12-2 defeat at the hands of the Cal Golden Bears on Evans Diamond in Berkeley Friday evening.

WSU starting pitcher Damon Jones struggled from the get-go; in 3.2 innings Jones gave up ten hits and nine runs (all earned) with just one strikeout to go along with three walks for his line.

The Cougars had some chances against Bears starter Jared Horn who pitched six scoreless innings, despite walking five batters. WSU left the bases loaded in the fifth and seventh innings and left 13 total men on base for the whole game.

Shane Matheny went 2-for-4 and drove in WSU's only two runs with a double in the eighth inning while Justin Harrer and Andres Alvarez each added a hit in two at-bats for the Cougars.

The Cougs will look to even the series up this evening with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
