It isn’t often that you hear about the Washington State Cougars flipping a recruit committed to another Pac-12 institution. It’s even rarer to see them go right into the backyards of recruiting grounds with which they’re relatively unfamiliar and do just that.
But they did tonight, as consensus 3-star running back Max Borghi flipped from Colorado to WSU. His commitment to the Cougs comes about four months after his initial commit to the Buffs.
The 5-foot-10, 186-pound senior-to-be from the western Denver suburb of Arvada is rated the best running back in the state of Colorado for the 2018 recruiting class; quite a get for Mike Leach and Jim Mastro.
Borghi combined for more than 1,300 yards from scrimmage through the air and on the ground last season, racking up 20 touchdowns. His sophomore campaign was even more impressive yardage wise, with 1,500 total yards and 13 touchdowns.
In my not-so-expert opinion, Borghi is capital F Fast. In his highlight video, he hits the line of scrimmage about as fast you’ll see in high school. Add in his elusiveness and his quick cuts and he leaves defenders in the dust. He’s lined up at receiver a few times in his highlights but he’s mostly taking hand offs from there. Moving running backs to inside receiver is not unheard of at WSU but I would surmise Forghi is projected to stay in the backfield.
He’s the first running back commit for WSU’s 2018 class and boy, is he a good one, especially considering where the Cougs went to get him.
Borghi also held offers from Utah, Cal, Arizona, and Air Force among others.
