Every year, the Orlando Sentinel builds up to college football season by ranking every team. Typically, the process has not been very kind to WSU. During the last five years, the Orlando Sentinel has commonly ranked WSU lower than many other publications, sometimes significantly.
That isn’t the case this year.
The Orlando Sentinel published their WSU profile on Sunday and the Cougars checked in at No. 26. That’s actually 14 spots higher than the Cougars rank in the 2017 S&P+ projections.
The No. 26 ranking is the highest WSU has received from the Orlando Sentinel. The Cougars were No. 30 last season, No. 97(!) in 2015, No. 81 in 2014, No. 80 in 2013, and No. 84 in 2012.
Only time will tell if No. 26 is accurate, but I have to say it feels a lot better writing this post being No. 26 than it did writing it being No. 97.
