WSU commit Rodrick Fisher granted one more season of high school football

Rodrick Fisher has been granted one more year of high school football eligibility.

Fisher, who is expected to sign with WSU this December, was a few credits shy of graduating this past spring due to missing much of his sophomore year because he was homeless. He is the age of most college freshman, but will be able to play football this fall for the East Valley (Spokane) Knights while he finishes up his high school work.

It's nice to see the decision makers make the right decision for the student and the athlete.

Fisher was largely an unknown to the recruiting community when he committed to the Washington State Cougars back on May 10 as the third member of the 2018 class. He had no official scouting evaluation from any of the major services. Why?

Here's a refresher on Fisher's story:

Recruiting services tend not to waste much of their time with guys they believe won’t qualify for college athletics. But once it became clear he would, they started taking a closer look. What they saw was a raw receiver with the kind of size/speed combination you don’t often find — he’s 6-foot-2, 200 pounds and he ran the fastest 100- and 200-meter times in the state last year.

That’s led them to elevate their evaluation of Fisher: He’s now the second-highest rated recruit in the 2018 class, having been given a four-star designation by 247Sports. And that might just continue to go up — he’s only just starting to tap into his athletic potential.
