WSU football recruiting: Cougs land Texas cornerback Erick Hallett

Hallett is rated the No. 64 cornerback prospect in the country.

Erick Hallett, a cornerback prospect from Cypress, Texas, announced on Twitter today that he has verbally committed to play his college football for the Washington State Cougars.

Hallett, a composite three-star prospect, picked the Cougs over offers Memphis, Nevada, Southern Miss, Houston, Tulane, UMass and many others. Listed at 5-foot-10, 170-pounds, the Cy-Fair High School product is ranked the No. 64 overall cornerback prospect by the 24/7 Sports Composite. His 24/7 Sports rating (0.8536) is the third highest in the class.

As a junior last season, Hallett was a first-team all district selection after racking up 28 tackles, four interceptions, 12 pass breakups and a forced fumble. He also returned a kick for a touchdown.

Relatively new to the position as a converted receiver, Hallett appears to have picked it up well, displaying solid cover skills and a knack for the ball in his Hudl film bleow. His size isn’t ideal for an Alex Grinch cornerback, but he plays a lot bigger than he is.

With Hallett now in the fold, WSU now holds 14 verbal commitments in the 2018 recruiting class. He’s the second current verbal commitment from Texas this cycle, joining fellow defensive back Gatlin Grisso. In total, WSU has six defensive commits.
