HCA: College GameDay skips Washington State for Times Square

Will the show ever make an appearance in Pullman?

NCAA Football: Boise State at Washington State James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

Washington State’s one-sided love affair with ESPN’s College GameDay looks like it will last into the foreseeable future. Thursday, the network announced that show will be traveling not to an actual college campus next weekend, but instead to Times Square in New York City.

The question that many seem to be asking is simply why? There is no major college football team in New York (sorry Columbia) and college football is not a major cultural event in the city. The beauty of Gameday is how it highlights college towns across the country and the ways different fan bases celebrate their team. Neither of those will be shown next week.

Instead, they will travel to what the Ringer’s Rodger Sherman described as “the worst part of New York, or, for that matter, any place on earth.”

Regardless of where they go, however, Cougs will stay loyal to the show. Even after the network tugged at our heart strings in 2015, just to go elsewhere at the last minute, the flag continues to fly. Ol’ Crimson’s streak will hit 200 straight episodes this season. But even with that level of devotion, ESPN shows no sign of returning the favor.
