Washington State middle blocker Jocelyn Urias was named Pac-12 Offensive Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday after helping lead her Cougs to a weekend sweep over #14 USC and #20 UCLA. This is the first career player of the week award for the 6’3” Junior from Tijuana, Mexico and the first for a Cougar since October 3, 2016.
On Friday, the Cougars (15-5) hosted the Trojans (15-6) and pulled out a five-set victory after finishing the fifth set 18-16 to come away victorious. Urias finished Friday nights game with 13 kills and 5 digs to help kick off a great weekend for Washington State Athletics.
The Cougs came out strong to start the match winning the first set 25-16 before letting USC take the second set 25-21. The Cougs and the Trojans then alternated 25-23 set wins before she put them away in the final set with a match-winning kill.
Two days later the Cougs were back at it against UCLA when Urias lit up Bohler Gym leading the way to their first home sweep in program history and the first sweep of the Bruins since 1996.
Urias finished with a career high .700 attack percentage, 14 kills, two aces, and three blocks as the Cougs handled business 25-22, 25-20, and 25-21 to keep their home unbeaten streak alive.
The Cougars will head on the road this upcoming week and take on Utah on Wednesday and Colorado on Friday, both are 12-9 on the season. Their next chance to continue their home winning streak will come November 2nd and 4th when they host Arizona and Arizona State and look to secure the season sweep against the two Arizona schools.

Then-No. 25 Washington State knocked-off then-No. 12 Oregon 34-20 in Pullman on Saturday under the leadership of Gardner Minshew II, who threw for 323 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. The Cougars closed out the first half with a 27-0 lead, marking the first time Oregon has been shutout in the first half since 2014.
ESPN has a 7:45 p.m. slot open for one of two Pac-12 games on Nov. 3, and the Worldwide Leader has exercised one of its six-day selection options to choose between UW-Stanford and Washington State-Cal for that time.
