WSU volleyball lands No. 16 overall seed in NCAA Tournament

The Cougs will host the first weekend of the tournament in Pullman.

The Greenys

Another year, another appearance in the postseason for the Washington State volleyball team. It’s becoming a bit of a habit we are glad they aren’t breaking!

After two straight appearances where the Cougs advanced from their first game before losing to Big Ten foes (Penn State Nittany Lions and Nebraska Cornhuskers), they get the honor of hosting the opening weekend of the tournament this year for the first time since 2001. The Cougs are the number 16 overall seed in the tournament; they’ll face off against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks Friday night at Bohler Gym. If the Cougs advance, they’ll face the winner of Friday’s earlier match between the Tennessee Volunteers and Colorado State Rams.

This is Washington State’s third straight appearance in the postseason under head coach Jen Greeny. The Cougs finished the regular season 21-9 overall with a 12-8 conference record, good for fourth in the Pac-12. They are one of four teams hosting, including the Oregon Ducks, USC Trojans and the Stanford Cardinal, who marched through their conference season undefeated.

The Washington Huskies, UCLA Bruins, Colorado Buffaloes and Utah Utes also made it to the postseason, meaning two-thirds of the Pac-12 will be appearing in the tourney.
