Good Saturday morning, Coug fans. Your no. 8 Washington State Cougars welcome the California Golden Bears tonight. It’s Dad’s Weekend and the game kicks off at 7:45 p.m. Yeah, it might get crazy.
I was thinking this week about past games against Cal and how some weirdness tends to happen. There was the 60-59 game that we all would like to forget and the 2015 game where WSU allowed Cal to convert a 3rd-and-36 from deep in their own end late in the game. Did I mention it was on a draw play? Then there was last year’s drubbing.
Let’s hope this year is more routine.
Cal comes to town fresh off a 12-10 win over the Washington Huskies and boasts a stout defense. But that offense? It’s nothing special.
Three bold predictions for WSU vs. Cal
- The teams will combine for exactly six turnovers.
- Jahad Woods returns a pick-six more than 30 yards.
- Cal will use three quarterbacks.
The six turnovers is due to the expected rainy conditions. The rain hasn’t hampered the Cougs in recent years, but this is Cal. The Cougs turned it over seven times last year and it wasn’t even raining (though it was smoking, FWIW).
Go Cougs.

Soccer
The best athlete at WSU isn’t Gardner Minshew II. It’s Morgan Weaver, the junior soccer star. Her hat trick against UW extended WSU’s unbeaten streak against the Huskies to 15 matches. You could say Gardner Minshew is the Morgan Weaver of football.
The Cougs will find Monday out where they’re headed in the NCAA Tournament.
