After splitting the first two of the three games this season, Washington State looks to notch their first season series against Gonzaga since 2011 with a victory on Tuesday night in Pullman when they host the Bulldogs at 5 p.m. at Bailey-Brayton Field. The Cougars won the first meeting at home back in the beginning of April but dropped the second game in Spokane a few weeks later.

The Cougars (15-27-1) will likely put Collin Maier on the mound; the redshirt senior is 1-0 this season with a 5.52 ERA and has tallied 9 strikeouts in his 14.2 innings pitched. Gonzaga (26-21) will put up freshman Michael Spellacy on the mound. In his three innings pitched this season, he has a 6.00 ERA and has two strikeouts.

Maier was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 First Team when the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America announced their 11 student-athletes to the first team last Thursday. The list honors the nations top student-athletes for their performance on the field as well as in the classroom. He is one of two pitchers to make the list and is the first Cougar to make it since Collin Slaybaugh was named to the list from 2012-14. The All-American list will be announced in June.

The Cougars are coming off a 2-1 series loss to USC and are capping off a 7-game homestand in which they finished 1-4-1. The Bulldogs on the other hand have been relatively hot as of late as they have gone 6-2 in their last 8 games with both of their losses coming by 1 run each.

The Cougars will head down to Palo Alto this coming weekend to start a three game series against No. 3 Stanford. They will then return to Pullman the 24th to host Utah in another three game series to finish out their season.
