The cure for your Cougar football withdrawals

What else are you going to do, talk to your family?

NCAA Football: Alamo Bowl-Iowa State vs Washington State Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Hello Cougar fans, and welcome to the offseason. Thus ends the last week that featured a real college football game (the Senior Bowl doesn’t count). That means college football is all over for this season, and boy what fun it was.

Our Washington State Cougars went 11-2 and won the Alamo Bowl. Gardner Minshew wowed us at every turn. Mike Leach smiled a little more the season (we think), and the mustache made a comeback as a popular fashion trend. At least in Pullman.

I was bored the other day, so I did a little YouTube wandering. That’s where I search random things to pass the time. I came across the ‘Mississippi Mustache’ song and enjoyed that tune one more time. It brought me back to this past season and reminded me how fun it was. I hope none of us ever take it for granted.

It also got me thinking: We don’t have another Cougar football game until next season. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH ALL THIS TIME ON MY HANDS?!?!?!

Relive this past season, that’s what I’m going to do. Here’s how you can join me:

Re-watch the opening to College GameDay

Fire up the DVR and watch some games

If you’re like me, you DVR every game and delete the losses (only had to do that twice this year!). Eventually, I delete the others but keep a few. I still have the 2017 game against USC on there. This season, I kept the College GameDay broadcast, the Oregon game, the Stanford game and the Alamo Bowl. The Stanford game is probably my favorite one of the season. Man what a game.

Search for highlights on YouTube

I’m not talking about the highlights the athletic department posts after each win. Those are fun, don’t get me wrong, but I’m talking about clips—or entire games—that will probably be taken down at some point. Watch them while you can:

Take a look around

You’ll learn a ton just by cruising around that site. It’s unbelievable.

Ever wander around Wikipedia? I do. You’ll learn some things you probably won’t find at For instance, did you know WSU scored all of its points in the 1988 Aloha Bowl in the second quarter? I didn’t, mostly because I was a two-year-old when that happened.

Cackle at this, over and over again

It’s a long offseason, so you’ll have to find ways to pass the time. I hope I’ve provided a few useful ones.
