After a very convincing win last week, the Washington State men’s basketball team will hit the road for a one-game swing and take on the Santa Clara University Broncos in Santa Clara, California. Tip-off will be at 7:00 pm and can be seen on the WCC Network.
The Cougars will look to make it two wins over teams that previously beat them as Santa Clara came to Spokane and took a game away from Cougars last season - the game was played at Spokane Arena but was considered a home game for the Cougars. Without the help of Robert Franks last season, they fell 79-71. The Cougars opened the season with a 31-point victory over Seattle U after losing to them the previous year 78-69.
The Broncos, who beat Cal Poly 77-63 last Friday, finished the 2018-19 season with a 16-15 record. They are also a young team as they have nine players in their freshman or sophomore year. Four of their five main starters from last season’s team return this year.
Outside of men’s basketball, Washington State athletics had a big Monday all around. The Cougars senior night matchup against Oregon State on November 23rd was announced as a 6:00 pm kickoff and will be televised on Pac-12 Networks. Their November 16th home game against Stanford was also announced that kickoff will be at 1:30 pm and will also be on Pac-12 Networks.
The NCAA also announced that the Cougars will host the first round of the NCAA Soccer Tournament. The Memphis Tigers will come to town on Friday with kickoff being at 5:00 pm. That game can be seen on the WSU Live Stream.
The good news on Monday continued as senior volleyball player Alexis Dirige was named Pac-12 Defensive player of the week. Dirige helped lead the Cougars to their first sweep over the two Oregon schools since 2002. She finished with 37 digs over the two matches which was good enough to get her into the top-10 in Pac-12 Volleyball history. She also found herself in another record book when she recorded her 88th ace which landed her in the 10th-all time.
