A minor tradition was stopped in its tracks against the Oregon Ducks a couple of weeks ago when the Washington State Cougars donned gray helmets and pants in Eugene. The Cougs had been wearing their all-whites on trips to their southern neighbor since 2014 (excepting the 2015 ketchup bottle game) but eschewed that instead for the Bay Area trip this weekend against the Cal Golden Bears.

This is an extremely good call on the part of whoever makes these decisions nowadays. Besides the fact that this combo is spectacular, WSU has played pretty well in it in recent years. They have not lost while wearing it since 2015 in the Game That Shall Not Be Named and their trip to Berkeley but did beat the Golden Bears in 2013 wearing the same getup. A perfect attempt to try and counter the usual Berkeley nuttiness that always seems to occur when Wazzu is at Memorial Stadium.
