Mike Leach could join an absurd Dallas Cowboys rumor mill

Very few things in sports can match the absurdity of the college football coaching carousel. From tracking private jets to athletic directors being fired while negotiating deals, it is one of a kind. A Dallas Cowboys coaching search might be one of the few things that can stand above, and it might just be about the time for one.

Jason Garrett is finishing his ninth full season as the Cowboys head coach. And, it’s not going well. He appears on the way out, which will lead to one of the best rumor mills in all of sports.

Garrett hasn’t even been fired yet and some sites have already put out a 35(!) name list of candidates to replace him. Among them, one Mike Leach.

Mike Leach has coached in Texas before. Mike Leach has probably been to Dallas before. Mike Leach may have even met Jerry Jones before. So obviously Mike Leach is a candidate to take over the Cowboys. Apparently.

Leach wasn’t the only Pac-12 coach on the list of 35. David Shaw and Chris Petersen also made the list. As did Jim Harbaugh and a host of others, including Jon Kitna. It seemed like we were done with Leach coaching rumors for another year, but to be honest to watch the Cowboys burn the world down is worth another rumor or two.
