Massillon High School in Ohio has had the fortune of having some big name head coaches address their fans in the past couple of years to get them excited for the next season. This year, Washington State Cougars coach Mike Leach is the guest of honor.
The speakers the two previous years may be the biggest names in college football in Nick Saban and Urban Meyer. This obviously puts coach Leach in some very prestigious company. The first two speakers set a very high bar that the high school feels the Cougar coach will continue.
The WSU connection to Massillon comes via running back recruit Jamir Thomas who led the Tigers to the state finals in 2018. The program turns out division one players every year, recently highlighted by receiver Tre’von Morgan who is headed to Michigan State and Ohio State players Austin Kutcher and Thayer Munford. NFL first round pick Gareon Conley is a Tiger alum.
The kickoff event will happen on May 3. Pretty cool that coach Leach gets to be part of this terrific tradition.
