With a roster experiencing overcrowding at the quarterback position, this news is not exactly surprising. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Connor Neville announced on Twitter today that he would be transferring and will be immediately eligible to play.

A member of the 2017 recruiting class, Neville had never seen the field in his two seasons at Washington State, redshirting his freshman year and was deep down the depth chart in 2018.

Neville likely found himself in the same position this coming season. We had never really heard Mike Leach mention his name when it came to the quarterback battle with even walk-on John Bledsoe earning praise a time or two without Neville’s name mentioned. With the transfer of Gage Gubrud to WSU, Neville found himself likely buried again this year with heir apparent Cammon Cooper cemented ahead of him.

The “run-off waiver” Neville is referring to is actually one we had never heard of before. It essentially means WSU told Neville his services would no longer be needed and, presumptively, his scholarship would be disappearing this coming year. It leaves Neville free to transfer to whatever institution he wishes with no eligibility penalty.

All the best to Connor in his future endeavors!
