The Washington State baseball team looks to turn things around today as they host Gonzaga for the first time this season with first pitch scheduled to be at 5:05 at Bailey-Brayton field. The Cougars have now lost 12 in a row after being swept by Arizona State, UC Irvine, and Stanford and won just three games in the month of March.

The Cougs have now gotten through what seems to be the toughest part of their schedule as three of their last four opponents have been ranked in the top 25. They will host Gonzaga who sits at 12-12 on the season.

Today’s matchup will feature a pair of left handed pitchers with freshman Tyson Guerrero on the mound for the Cougs and redshirt-junior Matthew Henckel throwing for the Zags. Guerrero has thrown in 9 games this season but has only thrown for more than 1.1 innings just once this season. He does have 16 strikeouts and has given up just three earned runs on the season.

The guy opposite of Guerrero has struggled a bit this season as he has given up 9 earned runs in just 8.1 innings pitched and has just three strikeouts on the season.

This is just the first of a three game season series between the Zags and the Cougs as they will face off again in three weeks on April 23rd and again on May 6th. Both of the next two games will be in Spokane at the Patterson Baseball Complex. Washington State won the first meeting last season before dropping the final two of the season series.

The Cougs will head down to California for a three game series beginning on Friday before hosting Seattle U for another Tuesday game next week.
