HCA: Mid-week matchup for Cougar baseball

The 10-36-1 Cougars are looking to add another victory to a disappointing season

With just seven games remaining in the 2019 baseball season, the Washington State Cougars will head to the state of Utah for their final stretch on the road that will begin today with a mid-week match-up with Utah Valley. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM at UCCU Park in Orem, Utah.

This past weekend the Cougars were swept in three games by top-ranked UCLA including a 10-run loss in the middle of the series. In the final game of the series, the Cougs held an 8-6 lead heading into the 7th inning before they gave up 5-runs in the top half of the 7th. Things started to turn in the bottom half of the 9th inning as the Cougars looked as if they were going to try and make a comeback but were only able to bring 2 runs across the plate as they fell 13-10.

The Wolverines (13-36) have been in the same boat as the Cougs (10-36-1) for much of this year as they have had a rough season as well. Freshman left hander Cole Yocum will take the mound today for the 19th time this season. He has given up 31 runs on 38 hits in his 28 innings pitched and has a 1-1 record. He has thrown more than 2.1 innings just once in his young career and that came in a 5-inning victory against Seattle University back in March.

Up next, the Cougars will be staying in Utah for a three game series beginning on Thursday and finishing Saturday morning as all three games will have their first pitch coming at 10:30 AM. After finishing their final stretch on the road they will wrap up the regular season with a three game series next weekend when they host Arizona.
