HCA: Andre Dillard making progress in Philadelphia

The 22nd pick in the 2019 NFL Draft is making a name for himself quickly

NFL: Philadelphia Eagles-Rookie Minicamp Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The 2019 NFL Draft ended just over a month ago and Andre Dillard has been making a rather large name for himself in Philadelphia since being traded up for according to ESPN’s Tim McManus. While training camp is still a few weeks out, the Eagles and Dillard are in the middle of OTA’s and the former Cougar left tackle is filling in some big shoes in the City of Brotherly Love.

With the Eagles missing 37-year old veteran left tackle Jason Peters who has been absent from OTA’s as he is preserving his body for the season, Dillard has been stepping in and running with the starting offensive line. “We’re just trying to get his feet wet with the playbook and get him moving around” said Eagles head coach Doug Pederson.

Dillard was traded up for in the draft is thought to be the one who will replace Peters eventually as his contract is up after this season. Those in charge of the Eagles believe that he has what it takes to protect the blindside of quarterback Carson Wentz and believe that what he showed in a Cougars uniform will translate into what they are looking for in a left tackle in the NFL.

While Dillard and the rest of his new teammates have yet to put on pads, getting the reps and feel of his teammates and the playbook will be more beneficial for him in the long run. If Peters, who has gone down more often lately with injuries, finds himself on the sideline the Eagles want to have his backup primed and ready to go when his number gets called upon.
